Founded in 1999 by the senior management team that grew Ascend Communications from its inception
to the multi-billion-dollar company acquired by Lucent Technologies, Zhone Technologies is developing
a complete line of telecommunications equipment for the local access network. Its products allow network
service providers to offer voice, data and video services while optimizing bandwidth, reducing costs and
speeding up provisioning. Zhone enables carriers to easily migrate from traditional circuit-based technology
to packet-based networks while substantially reducing operating costs, and also allows service providers to transition to a
fiber infrastructure while continuing to operate their current copperbased network, as well as allow service providers to
add new subscriber services more quickly than possible with conventional copper access solutions.
The AccessNode Universal Edge 9000 is a multifabric, high-density, integrated
access platform delivering a full suite of narrowband and broadband services. It
can be installed in central office, collocation, and outside plant environments as
well as customer premise locations such as multiple tenant units (MTUs), multiple
dwelling units (MDUs), and optimizes your capital expenditures with costeffective
installation, and delivers a full suite of services with carrier-class reliability and quality.
Unlike single mega-card “mux-on-a-plug” systems permitting only all-or-nothing protection,
the RC-28D’s modular design segregates and insulates the feeder from the drop side
protection, preventing a tributary’s degrading performance from triggering a high speed
interface or total-system switch. Switching hits just the affected plug. System modularity
accommodates variable equipment protection ratios (e.g., 1:1 - feeder and 1:N - tributary), enabling a variety of service
availability guarantees and competitive pricing options. It features continuous self-monitoring capabilities for both on-line
and off-line functions, monitors the working and standby ports of both the transmit and receive sides of the equipment, and
the serial alarm interface and optional concentrated alarm shelf further enhance system reliability.
