Transport - Occam

The Internet is morphing into a world of high-speed, always-on applications. Bandwidth-intensive applications such as digital video teamed with always-on applications such as instant messaging and stock quotes drive this new world. And with Congress looking at "Universal Broadband" to address the digital divide, it is clear that carriers must find a way to provide bandwidth not just to some areas with some users, but rather to everyone, everywhere.

At the same time, voice networks are poised for rapid change. Today's circuit-switched voice networks will give way to tomorrow's packet voice networks.

The challenge service providers face is how to deliver the bandwidth customers need over today's separate voice and data networks in a way that can evolve to tomorrow's converged voice and data network. At the same time, a simplified, low-cost architecture is needed to allow carriers to combat the competition from cable and wireless alternatives.

Existing solutions are too complex, too costly, and too limited. Many companies provide "spot broadband" that cannot scale pervasively. Others provide solutions that can scale but don't work with tomorrow's converged voice networks.

And finally, emerging solutions for converged voice and data networks do not address the pervasive broadband challenge.

Occam Networks was founded to address this need.

The Occam BLC 6000 integrates the functions of an NGDLC, IP DSLAM, Optical Multiplexor, VoIP Line Access Gateway, Line Test System and Ethernet Switch into an environmentally hardened loop carrier system. The system includes plug-in blades, chassis, cabinets and management software. It supports standard lifeline POTS phones and DSL modems and integrates into CLASS 5 swithcing via TR08 or GR 303. And it supports IP IADs, Terminal Adapters or IP phones into IP Softswitches. One or the other, or mix and match simultaneously.

The BLC 6000 incorporates a unique distributed architecture that enables system blades to operate in a 12 slot high capacity chassis or in a standalone 1RU chassis.

The Occam BLC 6000 simplifies the access network by consolidating multiple functions into a single network element. Its core service delivery model is based on the simplest, most common, and most cost-effective technologies available today.
