Company History

The Company .......
           Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

Falcon was started in 1967 by four individuals who had a vision of communications for rural areas. These four pioneers embarked upon their journey to bring the best available and most affordable telecommunications equipment to the small rural telephone companies. By meeting the needs of small rural telephone companies, Falcon was on it’s feet and moving into the future of telecommunication services.

In 1986, the company moved from Crosset, Arkansas to Malden, Missouri, where the corporate headquarters remain today. In 1970, Falcon began providing installation, engineering, and equipment sales, and in 1973, opened their repair division in West Plains, Missouri. In December of 1978, Falcon placed their first digital switch on order, and in the spring of 1980, cut the first two digital trailers into service. The stand-by trailer switch program has been quite successful over the years, servicing 200 locations with up to 13 digital trailers. Emergency service has been provided for disasters such as a tornado in Mason, Iowa, gas leak explosion in Harrison, Arkansas, various equipment outages, floods, fires, and unforeseen additions/upgrades throughout the country. A recent alert was September 2001 when we were put on alert to have communications trailers available if needed to service the New York tragedy of 9/11. Additionally, on January 10, 2002, Spectra Communications, after receiving a request from the President’s support group, called upon Falcon to provide and install necessary Digital Remote equipment to provide 150 access lines for President Bush’s visit to Aurora, Missouri. Then again in 2003, Falcon came to the Alltel’s rescue in Stockton, Missouri where a tornado completely destroyed the Central Office. The service was turned up within 72 hours of receiving the emergency call providing service once again for the Stockton residents.

Today with over 75 employees across the United States, Falcon is one of the very few companies in America that provides tested and warranted equipment, systems integration, engineering, installation, equipment repair, emergency disaster service, and the 24/7 commitment to Tier 2 and Tier 3 telephone companies. Falcon’s area of interest is the rural telephone industry. Major Bell Telephone Companies serve 85% of U.S. telephone customers, but approximately 1500 small rural telephone companies serve two-thirds of the rural geographic area of the country. These small rural companies need the services we provide, as it gives them the opportunity to afford the same equipment to make available the same services to their customers as the large telephone companies. This niche market has provided a place for Falcon to help the small rural telephone companies “Bridge the Digital Divide”.

In addition to meeting the needs of the rural telephone industry, Falcon places great emphasis on community needs, not only in their immediate areas, but those servicing their customers. Donations have been provided to the Bootheel Youth Museum and the Bootheel Education Center since 1996, to Creative Communities since 1998, and their latest efforts were to the Des Moines Area Community College in 2001 when Falcon donated equipment for their new telecommunications facilities.

Since 1967, Falcon Communications, Inc. has established itself as the world-class leader in providing multi-platform central office equipment and service to the rural telecommunications industry, and through continuous research and a commitment to excellence, Falcon has consistently led the field for 38 years in bridging the gap between yesterday’s technology and the cutting-edge technology of today and into the future.
